I Know You'll Count On the Me From Yesterday

It really was a treat to see so many good friends last night in Arlington at the Hardie-Allen wedding. In one of the country's longest unknown streaks, I was yet again somehow denied the honor of catching the garter by that rascal Jordan Paul Gay, but as a wise man once said, "Tough times don't last but tough people do."

Also, as the editor-in-chief of the Blahg was quick to point out, a special recognition is in order for my good friend Jeff McCain, who has been a faithful reader of Running Down a Dream from Day 1 (a.k.a. October 25, 2004). If any of the rest of you have been reading from the beginning, and somehow feel that I have slighted you by failing to mention your name, by all means, please use the comments section to berate me for this error.

I'll have more later, but right now I need to take some personal time to get in the right frame of mind for the return of American Gladiators to the airwaves. Let's be honest, if you can't get excited about "The Eliminator", you probably have a hard time getting excited about anything.

You also might not have a soul.

It hurts, but it's the truth.

I am One of Those Melodramatic Fools

I'm Trapped in This Body and Can't Get Out

Congratulations to Mr. John Middleton for correctly naming "Where Everybody Knows Your Name",a.k.a. the theme song from Cheers, as the Tuesday Song of the Day.

I just arrived back in Waco late tonight from a quick, quick trip to the Big D for a Mavs game with my good friend Mason Orr and his brother, the illustrious Benton Orr.

Probably the most disturbing part of the entire experience, besides seeing Don Nelson in high definition, was discussing the Fab Five with Benton, who was born in 1995, and realizing that he was born after the corpse now known as Juwan Howard graduated from college.

My goodness.

I'm turning 24 in two weeks and I already feel old.

Me and All My Friends, We're All Misunderstood

Congratulations to Mr. John Middleton for correctly naming "Wonderwall" by Oasis as the Tuesday Song of the Day. Mr. Masten, your somewhat specious "my computer won't load the photos" excuse has been noted and disregarded. I'm sorry, but it's a cruel, cruel world in the Song of the Day contest.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Running Down a Dream enthusiasts of all ages and literacy levels, it is my distinct pleasure to announce the arrival of a new blog to the information superhighway: The Jig and Twig, primarily authored by the two gentlemen (Lance Agan and Jacob Wardell) to my left in the following photo.

The picture obviously makes it appear that Mr. Wardell is the "Teller" character of the arrangement and Mr. Agan is "Penn", but appearances can be deceiving.

Another deceiving facet of that photo is that it did not actually snow in Abilene on the day we graduated from ACU. That's obviously the aftermath of a Blahg promotional stunt gone horribly wrong. Luke, I always told you that no one wanted the shredded Enron documents as a graduation gift.

Lift Up Your Head, Focus on Every Detail

Congratulations to Mr. Joseph R. Halbert for correctly naming "Lift" by Flickerstick as the Monday Song of the Day.

In an exciting new addition to the blogosphere, Kayla (Freede) and Lance Agan recently began worldwide publication of "Our Happy Life". We'll see how happy life is when Lance finds out that he received second-billing in the naming category, but until then enjoy the Houston-derived, smog-addled, thoughts of the Agans.

Good Luck Had Just Stung Me

Nearly all of the other BLS bloggers have utilized this fantastic device, which was brought to our attention by Prof. Osler, but I have not revealed Running Down a Dream's rating until now.

cash advance

I can proudly say that you are currently perusing a blog that requires a "High School" reading level, but this revelation caused me to wonder what reading level was required for some of the other material that I peruse on a daily basis.

(All of these are the unadulterated, unaltered truth)
  • NY Times: Junior High
  • Washington Post: High School
  • ESPN: Junior High
  • Luke Reeves and the Blahg: Genius
  • Joseph R. Halbert: High School
  • Malcolm Gladwell: High School
  • Jonathan Smith: Junior High
  • Tim Henderson: Genius
  • Cris Carpenter: High School
  • Heath Huston: Elementary School (Heath, the truth hurts)
  • Patty V: High School
  • Dan Carlson: Elementary School (I have a feeling there will be some feedback on that result)
  • Jeff Giddens (High School)
  • Chris Field: Elementary School
  • Liverpool F.C.: Genius (I just report the facts ladies and gentlemen)
  • Facebook: High School (I'm beginning to doubt the accuracy of this site)
  • Wikipedia: Genius (My faith has been restored)
  • Politico: College (Undergrad)

That, my friends, is the tale of the proverbial tape. Now it is your turn to respond.

I'm Sorry I was Late, but I Missed the Train and the Traffic was a State

Here's a highlight clip from yesterday's 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Anfield.

Stevie G. has the rare ability to be able to thread those long strikes through a number of bodies on their path towards the goal. Let's hope that he gets strong support from the rest of the squad next Wednesday against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. You probably remember Joey's comment two days ago that he needed to put together some coherent thoughts in response to my posting of the Rolling Stone's Top 10 Songs of All-time. Well, Joseph went to work and here is the result.

For whatever it's worth, among my friends, I would probably say that Joey's musical tastes are easily within the top 5. I would probably also add Jeff Giddens, Dan Carlson, Heath Huston, and Nate Low into that list. Congratulations fellows, it's rarefied air.

Everything Goes in a Place Like This

If I'm bringing you a video made by a man who looks like this, you know it must be a treat. A few of my friends attended the WWE Royal Rumble last weekend down in San Antonio. Here's the trip documentary:

I would have included the footage shot by Mr. Heath Huston, but unless you want to know the fastest way to develop sea-sickness while still being hundreds of miles from the nearest ocean, you don't want to see it.
5 Finals down, O to go.
